Maintenance for your existing fire alarm, whoever installed it.
You Don't Have To Start Over
A fire alarm that has outlived its installer is easy to neglect. The company that fitted it has closed or moved on and the service visits have slipped. Nobody can find the logbook. Replacing a working system is rarely the answer, though a lapse in inspection and testing can affect both performance and insurance. At Incognito Systems, we take over fire alarm maintenance for existing systems in commercial and industrial premises across Northamptonshire. A survey shows us what is there, and servicing and records are brought back up to date from that point.
We test the panel and every device, then check the system against the building as it is used today. Faults and disablements are recorded, along with any gaps in coverage, before we agree to maintain anything.
A documented starting point
Many systems arrive with patchy or missing records. Our survey gives you a baseline report, and full records are kept from every visit after that.
Scheduled maintenance
Once we have taken over, your system is inspected and tested to BS5839 on a regular schedule, with reactive callouts available between visits.
Addressable and Conventional Systems
We take on both types.
An addressable system gives each device its own identity, so the panel shows exactly where an alarm has been raised. A conventional system divides the building into zones and narrows an alarm down to an area. If you are not sure which you have, the panel usually tells you, and we confirm it at the survey. Either way, our engineers check that the layout still matches how the building is used, as an extension or a new partition can leave detection out of step with the premises.
Our fire alarm work is SSAIB accredited, which means it is independently inspected, and testing is carried out to BS5839 with every finding logged. If we find faults, we explain what needs doing and what it will cost before any work begins. We do not recommend replacing equipment that is working and still supported.
It starts with a free site survey of the system as it stands. We explain what we find in plain language, with costs for anything that needs putting right, then agree a maintenance package to suit your site and budget. In most cases nothing changes day to day, so there is no downtime while responsibility for the system passes to us.
Can you take over a fire alarm that someone else installed?
Yes. Whether we installed your system or not, we can provide a maintenance package once a survey shows us what we are taking on.
What if I have no logbook or service records?
That is common with older systems. The survey gives us a baseline, and we keep full records from then on.
Do I need to replace my system?
Not necessarily. Equipment that is working and still supported can usually stay. If something is obsolete or faulty, we explain the options and costs before any work begins.
Will a takeover affect my insurance?
Insurers generally want evidence that a fire alarm is tested and maintained, so regular servicing with proper records helps. Check your policy wording and tell us if it sets specific requirements.
How do I know if my system is addressable or conventional?
Look at the control panel. An addressable panel normally shows the location of individual devices, while a conventional one shows zones. We confirm it at the survey either way.
Do you cover businesses outside of Northampton?
Our fire alarm work covers businesses throughout Northamptonshire, including Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and Rushden. For larger commercial projects we also work further afield, so get in touch to discuss your location.
