Good placement starts with how a property is actually used, not how it looks on a plan. A camera by the front door catches visitors and deliveries. One aimed along a side passage or back gate covers the route most opportunistic thieves would actually take, since very few break-ins happen through the front.

Height and angle matter just as much as position. A camera mounted too high often just captures the top of someone's head, which is next to useless if footage is ever needed to identify anyone. Angling cameras slightly downward, at a height that still catches faces clearly, makes a real difference to how usable the footage turns out to be.

Lighting conditions change what a camera can actually see, particularly once the clocks go back. A spot that looks perfectly covered in daylight can turn into a blurred, useless recording after dark unless the camera and the lighting are planned together from the outset.

Camera count matters more than people expect too. It's tempting to think more cameras automatically means better coverage, but overlapping views of the same low-risk area while a genuine blind spot sits untouched is a common and costly mistake. A smaller number of well-placed cameras will usually outperform a larger number placed without much thought.
